John K. Chamberlin, age 70 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. He was born September 22, 1952 in Albany, GA; the son of the late S/Sgt. John M. and LaVonne (Stabenow) Chamberlin. John married the love of his life Tina Cabot on October 16, 1993.

He had served 9 years in the United States Airforce, stationed in Alaska during the Vietnam War. After his service in the Airforce, he served the Freeport community as a Police Officer for 26 years making the rank of Sergeant. He retired from the Police Department as a Corporal. He came out of retirement to work TSA in Madison, WI for another 15 years.

John was a member of First Lutheran Church of Freeport. He was also a member of the Freeport Eagles Club. He loved playing solitaire and working puzzles, especially brain games. He was looking forward to taking up woodworking. He was a jokester but also a serious and dedicated worker and family man.

John is survived by his wife, Tina Chamberlin of Freeport; son, Danny (Emily Mirocha) Chamberlin of St. Charles, IL; sisters, Candy Balthazar of Davis, IL, Dena (Roger) Kampmier of Davis, Angela Chamberlin of Scioto Mills, IL; brother, Bob Chamberlin of South Wayne, WI; mother-in-law, Sharon Kuhlemeier of Freeport; sister-in-law, Teresa Simmons of Freeport; brother-in-law, Terry (Libby) Cabot; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Chamberlin; sister, Mila Landers; father-in-law, Jack Cabot; and step-father-in-law, Vern Kuhlemeier.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Freeport. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Condolences may be shared at www.walkermortuary.com.
