John D. Erwin, age 89 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 under FHN Hospice Care at Liberty Village in Freeport. He was born August 27, 1934 in Kent, IL to Lowell and Florence (Geise) Erwin.

John was a United States Army Veteran serving in Munich, Germany from 1954-1956. He married Patricia Wirsing on February 21, 1960. He worked for Chamber & Owen, owned and operated John's Tap, and was a letter carrier for the USPS from 1973-1997.

He is survived by his daughters, Dawn Weber of Washington, IA, Debra (Tom) Line of Monroe, WI, and Melanie Erwin of Grasse, France; son, Jay (Soon) Erwin of Alexandria, VA; sister, Nancy Christensen of Belleville, WI; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; son, John Erwin, Jr.; sisters, Kathryn Mantei, Elenor Soldwish, Delores Flanagan, and Mary Deyo; and brother, James Erwin.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany United Church of Christ of Freeport. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be shared with his family at www.walkermortuary.com.
