John C. "Hans" Wenger, 92 of Rock City died Wednesday December 9, 2009 at the Woods Crossing Community Care in Brodhead, WI. Born March 14, 1917 at Avon, WI, he was the son of Karl Charles and Bertha (Grunder) Wenger. Hans and Geneva Maurine Miller were married January 30, 1937 at Dubuque, IA. She preceded him in death August 27, 2001. Early in life Hans was a cheese maker and farmed in the Dakota area with his late wife Maurine many years prior to moving to Rock City. He was a partner in the Dakota Plumbing and Heating, served as Rock City Postmaster for twenty years and worked with Thoren Electric. His memberships include Rock City United Methodist Church, Charter member of Dakota Lions and Rock Run Historical Society, Volunteer Fireman for Rock City Fire Dept., Trustee of Rock City Fire Protection Dist., Rock City Village Board, National League of Postmasters and received Postmaster of the Year in 1975. He is survived by two daughters J. Karlene (Francis) Dornink of Dakota, Debbie (Jerry) Fortner of Davis; five grandchildren Randall (Connie) Dornink and David Dornink (Jodie Venditti) both of Dakota, Brian (Lori) Dornink of Freeport, Jeremy (Amber) Fortner of Dakota and Christie (Steve) Moss of Rock City; 10 great grandchildren Jason, Charity, Joshua (Dianna Geiseman), Christopher, Kyle, Kendra, Tug, Kirby (Jamie Mazurek) and Kacie Dornink and Caleb Moss.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Maurine, and one brother at infancy. Visitation will be from 3pm until 7pm Friday at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota. Funeral Service will be Saturday 10:30 a.m. at Rock City United Methodist Church with the Reverend Brian LeBaron officiating. Entombment will take place at Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum in Freeport.
