John S. Heiden, 84, of Freeport, died Wednesday, December 21stat Manor Court in Freeport. Born February 11, 1932 in Freeport, IL, he was the son of John F. and Florence (Swartz) Heiden.
He married Betty L. Meyer in Cedarville, IL on March 20, 1952.
John served in the Army in the Combat Signal Corp., serving in Korea from 1950 - 1952. He retired from the State of Illinois, Department of Military Affairs in 1997. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, The Korean War Veteran Association, American Legion and VFW.
He is survived by two sons, Tim (Charity) of Freeport and Rick (Deb) of Ellijay, Ga. Six grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeremy (Elizabeth) Heiden, Sarah (Bob) Pligge and Andy Heiden, Hayley (Jason) Ganus and Amy (Toby) Barnes, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, daughter, Nancy, his parents, two brothers and one sister.
A visitation will be held Thursday, December 29th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Walker Mortuary in Freeport. The funeral service will be Friday, December 30th at 10:00 am at St. John United Church of Christ in Freeport. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ, FHN Hospice or to the All Veterans Memorial Park of Stephenson County.
