Cedarville-John H. "Jack" Schmertman, 79, of Cedarville died Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at his home.
Born December 14, 1926 in Freeport he was the son of Lester and Amanda (Schwarze) Schmertman. He married Norma Waller September 8, 1950.
John worked for the Freeport Park District for 21 years and then 13 years with the Village of Cedarville.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
John was a founding member of the Stephenson County Antique Engine Club. He had a life long hobby of working on antique engines.
Surviving is his wife, Norma of Cedarville; one son, Randy (Cynthia) Schmertman of Menomonie, Wisconsin; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Aaron) Fruit of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Amanda (Dean) Ziemienski of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two brothers, Dale (Eleanor) Schmertman of Lena and Paul (Florence) Schmertman of Etowah, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Ruth; one son, William; and one brother, Donald.
Funeral service will be Monday 10:30 a.m. at Walker Mortuary with Reverend Diane Jochum officiating. Burial will be in the City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday 4 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
A memorial has been established for FHN Hospice.
