John Anthony Jackson, 69, of Freeport passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022 at Freeport Memorial Hospital.  John was born December 23, 1952 in Pulaski, IL to the late Peter and Margaret (Lee) Jackson.

John was a graduate of Freeport High School class of 1970. He attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL where he made the Dean's List.  John left SIU and was employed by Kelly-Springfield Tire Company where he later became a supervisor.

After leaving Kelly-Springfield, John was employed at St. Vincent's Community Living Center as a program instructor, working with adults with intellectual disabilities. He drove a bus and was a program aid for the St. Joseph Adult Day Care Center where he would sometimes go in on Holidays and cook for the residents. John worked with his friend, Chuck Kleckner, as a buyer and a restorer of antiques.

Before his body became too weak because of various illnesses, John was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed playing dominoes with his buddies on weekends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Margaret Jackson.

Surviving are his sisters Alria Warner, who was his caregiver and "Sister Mama" of Freeport, Jacqueline (Wolfgang) Broening, Hanau, Germany, brothers Kenneth Hamilton of Mounds, IL, Stephen (Cindy) Jackson of Freeport, and David Jackson (Lisa) of Rockford. John is also survived by his special friends J.R. Perez, Roosevelt Banks Jr., Ira, Thurman, Chuck Kleckner, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A special thanks is extended to Dr. Khan, DaVita Dialysis Center, caregivers Ronnie Smith, Kayla Seal, and Roosevelt Banks Jr.

John's family is comforted by the fact that he accepted Jesus Christ into his heart as Lord as Saviour and that he is now rejoicing before His Lord Jesus Christ and that sickness no longer has dominion over his body.
