John H. Lameyer, 80, of Freeport, died Friday, December 26, 2014, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
Born June 13, 1934 in Warren he was the son of John and Mary Helen (Peters) Lameyer. He married Lorrita DuMont June 10, 1980 and she died October 23, 2001.
John worked at Burgess Battery and then was a local Mail Carrier for the United States Post Office for 26 years.
He served in the US Army from November 1956 to November 1958.
A sports enthusiast he enjoyed bowling, and achieved a 300 game. John was an avid Cub and Bear fan. He loved traveling across the country, especially to Las Vegas.
John attended Seventh Day Adventist Church of Freeport.
Surviving are his sisters, Jean (Lee) Horstmeier of Pecatonica and Marianne Lameyer of Lena; his brother, Paul Lameyer of Warren; his stepdaughter, Tracy Gipe of Freeport; his step-grandchildren, Janice (Tim) Leamon of Lena and Matte Vanderheyden; three great grandchildren; six nieces and nephews; five great nieces and nephews and one great great niece; special thanks to nieces Lynn Weaver and Connie Peterson; and special friends, Ken and Esther Mayer and Doug Fleming all of Freeport.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Walker Mortuary.
Entombment of his body will be in the Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Walker Mortuary.
Memorials have been established for Friends Forever Humane Society and Seventh Day Adventist Church.
