Freeport-John Francis Mellnick, 57, of Freeport, died Tuesday, December 12, 2006, at his home.
Born January 28, 1949 in Freeport he was the son of Charles H. and Marianna F. (Hawn) Mellnick. He married Cynthia "Cindy" Neuschwander January 31, 1970.
John worked for Cushman & Wakefield at Met Life Insurance Company in Freeport.
He was a founding and active member of the Stephenson County Sheriff's Reserve. His memberships also included Faith United Methodist Church, Freeport Rural Fire Department, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Surviving is his wife, Cindy; his mother, Marianna Mellnick both of Freeport; one son, Thomas (Theresa Reed) Mellnick of Chicago; one brother, James C. (Kathy) Mellnick of Lakewood, Colorado; one niece, Christine (Matt) Hyman of Lakewood, Colorado; one great niece; 1 great nephew; one step grandchild; his in-laws, Clarence and Dolores (Knight) Neuschwander of Lena.
He was preceded in death by his Father.
Visitation will be Sunday 2 to 6 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
Funeral service will the Monday 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church with Reverend Douglas Q. Bowden officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.
