John Eugene "Hans" Untersee, Jr., 79, of Cedarville, died suddenly on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at his home.
Born June 16, 1928 in Winslow he was the son of John and Hedwieg (Brandle) Untersee. He married Donna L. Reed of Cedarville on August 6, 1949.
From his youth John worked as a cheese maker, and then as a proud member of Iron Workers Local 498 for over 30 years until his retirement. He enjoyed helping his son Scott, owner of Mark V Auto, up to the time of his death.
John was very proud of being a part of the Golden Gloves Boxing program in his youth.
A caring and devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather, sharing time and making special memories with the loved ones in his life was a gift he possessed in abundance.
John was also a participating member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife Donna, of Cedarville; 3 daughters: Candace (Douglas) Diddens, Julie (Tom) Green, and Cindy (Tim) Tessendorf, all of Freeport; 3 sons: Scott (Barbara) Untersee of Lena, Kurt Untersee and Bob (Kelley) Untersee both of Freeport; 5 sisters: Hedy Simmer of Rock City, Elsie (George) Bonivia of South Bend, Indiana, Claire (LaVerne) Klaas of Rockford, Alice Merrill and Rose Walden both of Anoka, Minnesota; 1 brother, Norman (Barbara) Untersee of Freeport; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and his sister in-law, Georgene Untersee of Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister: Helen Dietmeier; 3 brothers, Karl, Julius, and Edwin; and brother-in-laws Romaine Dietmeier and Vernon Simmer.
Funeral service will be Friday 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, 4 to 7 p.m., at Walker Mortuary followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m.
