Jon P. Lorenz (80) of Freeport and formally a long-term resident of Aurora, IL died at Manor Court of Liberty Village on November 16, 2021, after a short illness. Born in Freeport to parents, John F. Lorenz, and Pauline M. Lorenz (Kieckhaefer), he attended Freeport schools and graduated from Freeport H i gh School in 1958 and went on to be in the first graduating class at Freeport Community College (now HCC) in 1965 and Southern Illinois University (SIU) in 1968.
Jon was a long time Boy Scout attaining his Eagle rank and became a member of the Order of the Arrow (OA), attended Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, served as a scout master in Freeport and later was the district Boy Scout Executive. Along with his wife and infant daughter, he served as the Director of Boy Scout Camp Chin-Be-Gota in Wisconsin for several summers.
He spent four years (1958-1962) with the United States Air Force as Military Police and was stationed in Hawaii. As a student, served on the campus police at SIU, spent a short time with the Freeport Police Department and eventually ended his police service with the Fox Valley Park District Police Department.
Jon and his wife, the former Karen S. Bose were married in Freeport in 1964 and raised one daughter, Dr. Krista S. Lorenz DVM now of Bozeman, Montana. He is survived by his daughter Krista (Dan Jessen), two grandsons Ryan and Aaron, brother James (Karen) of Venice, Florida, sister Jenean Preston (Nelson) of Apache Junction, Arizona and was preceded in death by his parents and wife Karen of 53 years.
