Joseph L. Dawson, 91, of Freeport, died Saturday, February 23, 2008, at the Stephenson Nursing Center.
Born June 23, 1916 in Freeport he was the son of William and Laura (Petticrew) Dawson.
Joseph owned and operated Joe's Grocery Store in Freeport.
He was a member of Park Hills Evangelical Free Church.
Surviving are his nieces, Arlene MacAfee of Milwaukee, WI, and Shirley Lundgren of Rockford; his nephew, Lynn (Betty) Kurtz of Freeport; several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Russell and Kenneth Dawson; and his sister, Vera Kurtz.
Funeral service will be Thursday 2 p.m. at Walker Mortuary. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Thursday 1 p.m. until time of service at Walker Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Park Hills Evangelical Free Church.
