Obituary

Joseph Leland Hutchison died Monday, April 16, 2012 in Branson, Missouri, from a heart aortic aneurysm. Joe was born August 31, 1925 in Freeport, the son of Joseph O. and Florence (Shoemaker) Hutchison. He was a 1943 Dakota High School graduate. On May 28, 1949, he married Allane (West) Hutchison in Freeport. Allane died November 15, 2002. Joe married Ida (Vittorio) Saar on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2004. Joe, a lifelong farmer, planted crops for 55 years. A grain elevator owner/operator for over 30 years he had a fleet of trucks. Joe lived in his parents' house (built in 1923) all of his life. He had many interests including golf, building custom drum sets, reading, and exploring new interests. Joe adhered to high standards including do things right the first time, be organized, strive for independence and strength, don't compromise on honesty, explore new interests, be cool and have a sense of style. He relished a challenge. Joe was a long-term stabilizing yet inspiring influence to his family. He was a member of United Presbyterian Church, Freeport and the NRA. Survivors include his wife, Ida; sister, Ruth Ann Bates, of Freeport; three children, James (Connie) Hutchison, Rock City, Janet Scriven (Don Mantor), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mary Jane Hutchison (Edgar Abry), Marion, Iowa. Four grandchildren, Timothy (Laura) Hutchison, Harrisville, Michigan, Sarah (Dan) Rock, Cedar Lake, Indiana, Jessica Green and Molly (Phil Smalley) Scriven, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Ten great-grandchildren, one niece, JoAnn "Jody" (James) Meizelis, Danvers, two nephews, Tad (Veronica) Meizelis, Plainfield, Tony Meizelis, Bloomington, six stepchildren Lawrence (Barbara) Saar, Davis, Dave (Anna) Saar of Turner, Maine, Barbara Saar (Brian Sneed), Madison, Wisconsin, Mary (Nate) Meier, Freeport, Cathy (Ken) Ross, German Valley, Laurie (Keith) Ludolph, Davis. He was preceded in death by his first wife and his parents. Memorial service will be at 11 AM Saturday, April 28, 2012, at United Presbyterian Church in Freeport with Rev. Kathy Luke officiating. Cremation rites were accorded per Joe's wishes. Private inurnment of his cremated remains will be held at a later date at the Cedarville Cemetery in Cedarville. There will be no visitation. A luncheon reception will be held following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. A memorial fund is being established for the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.
