Joyce Mailand
Joyce Arlene Mailand, 84, of Freeport, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 3, 2012
Born on December 16, 1927 in Freeport, she was the daughter of Evelyn (Shade) and William Entmeier.
She attended the Freeport Schools.
On November 1, 1949, she married Delbert Mailand in Freeport. He passed away on December 31, 2011.
Joyce worked at the Northwestern Telephone Company, W.T. Rawleigh, and then at Micro Switch Honeywell for 27 years before retiring.
Over the years, Joyce enjoyed reading, listening to the radio, and being in the kitchen, cooking and baking. She was an excellent cook and a very good baker, well known for her cookies, desserts, and especially her pies. Joyce loved to make her goodies and give them to family, friends, and neighbors.
Shortly after retirement the virus, Serpiginous-Choroiditis, affected her eyesight, but she continued to bake for many years afterwards.
Joyce is survived by her two daughters, Pat Mailand and Penny Beyer, both of Freeport, two grandchildren, Joey Beyer of Freeport and Molly Beyer of Jacksonville, Florida, and one sister-in-law, Thelma Entmeier, of Freeport.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Del, her parents, and by her four brothers, Norman, William "Bud", Charles and Edward "Ronnie" and her three sisters, Betty, Dorothy and Nancy.
Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012 at Walker Mortuary. Her funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m.
Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in her name.
