Joyce Marks, 82, of Freeport, died April 4, 2009 at her home. Born in 1927 in Freeport to Alice (neé Fessenden Bratley) and Harry Womelsdorf, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray in 1989 (whom she had married in 1948), her twin sister, Joan Schultz in 1992 and a brother, Bruce Womelsdorf in 2008. Joyce was a practicing artist and had taught printmaking and ceramics classes part-time at Highland Community College. Primarily a painter, she had recently created a line of greeting cards. She briefly lived in Boca Raton, FL before returning to Freeport in 1995. Graduated from the University of Iowa in 1948 with a BFA, she worked at the Chicago Herald American newspaper before returning to Freeport with her husband where he practiced dentistry.
