Mrs. Juanita Thurmond, 76, of Freeport, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford.
Born March 6, 1932 in West, Mississippi she was the daughter of George and Pearl (Riley) Pearson. She married Ira Thurmond, Sr. April 13, 1963 in Freeport and he died January 30, 1981.
Juanita worked for Fullerton Bakery, Structo Manufacturing, Freeport Memorial Hospital, and St. Francis Hospital all in Freeport.
She was a member of Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Cheryl (Duane) Lamm of Freeport, Beatrice (Carl) Jennings of Hawthorne, CA, and Gwendolyn Dupree of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; 1 son, Ira (Sherry) Thurmond Jr. of Freeport; 1 step daughter, Mary (William) Burris of Des Moines, Iowa; 1 sister Addie Lee Cain of Madison, WI; 1 brother, Sidney E. Pearson of Los Angeles, CA; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 6 sisters; 4 brothers.
Funeral service will be Saturday 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ with Bishop James Washington officiating. Burial will be in the City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary and Saturday 10 a.m. until time of service.
