Karen Lynne Richmond, age 82 of Freeport, IL, died on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at Serenity Estates in Freeport. She was born February 24, 1943 in Chicago, IL; the daughter of the late Chester and Eleanor (Graczyk) Childs.

She married Woodrow M. Cunningham in 1962 in Chicago and had one daughter. She married Frederick A. Richmond on July 27, 1985 in Oak Park, IL. Residents of Oak Park for 25 years, she and Frederick retired to Freeport in 1997.

She attended schools and worked in Chicago. She started her own business in Chicago's Loop in 1985, which is still in operation today. Before a physical disability left her unable to walk well, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, home decoration and walking, primarily in Krape Park with her dog. She often jokingly referred to her Dobermans as the "sons she never had."

Preceding Karen's passing are her parents, brother Chet A. Childs, former husband Frederick Richmond, and special friend, Garhard, a lifetime pen pal in Germany. Surviving are her daughter, Carrie Parker, granddaughters, Adrienne and Amelia, plus two sisters, Laurel (Ed) Parker and Debra (Peter) Desmond. Missing their Aunt Karen are many nieces, nephews, grand/great nieces and nephews. Karen will be always be remembered, too, by many friends. Karen wanted to be remembered as one who strived to always be a good person and a good friend.
