Karl R. "Bucky" Downing, 70, of Freeport, died Sunday, February 17, 2013, at Stephenson Nursing Center.
Born April 27, 1942 in Freeport he was the son of Clinton M. "Bud" and Flora (Krueger) Downing. He married Donna J. Johnson July 17, 1965 in Freeport.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from Oct 3, 1960 until Oct 3, 1964.
Karl joined Structo Manufacturing in November of 1964 and worked 33 years until his retirement.
He was a member of Evangelical Free Church of Lena.
Surviving is his wife, Donna of Freeport; two sons, Charles (Sara) Downing of Freeport and James (special friend, Theresa Harhen) Downing of Forreston; two brothers, William (Carolyn) Downing and Steven (Sandra) Downing both of Freeport; five grandchildren, Felix and Tony Romero, Benjamin, Dominique, and Elliott Downing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ruth Ann Auer, and one niece, Mary Ann Hageman.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Walker Mortuary. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Thursday 12:30 p.m. until time of service at Walker Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for FHN Memorial Hospice.
