Katherine Palmer of Freeport, formerly of Dixon, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Provena St. Joseph Nursing Center in Freeport.
Katherine was born February 19, 1921, in Chicago to William and Constance (Sarantakis) Bistolas. She graduated from Marshall High School in Chicago in 1940. She and John Palmer were married on August 16, 1952.
Katherine loved reading and listening to opera. During World War II, she served her country as a civilian repairing altimeters.
She is survived by daughters Elaine Palmer of Freeport, and Connie Palmer (John Newsham) of St. Louis, MO; granddaughter Emily (Zachary) Muscato and great-granddaughter Madeline Rose Muscato, all of St. Louis, MO.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, and six brothers.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Per Katherine's wish there will not be a funeral service. A memorial has been established in her name at the Highland Community College Foundation.
