Freeport – Kathryn E. Scudder, 89 of Freeport passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025 at Walnut Acres, Freeport.  She was born December 21, 1935 in Freeport to the late Oliver and Iona (Furst) Walters.

Through the years she worked at Micro Switch and was a waitress in the Freeport area. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and spending time with family and grandchildren going out to eat and having fun together.

She is survived by her children Allen Scudder of Freeport, IL; Gary Best of Ankeny, IA; Sheri (Dave) Snyder of Lanark, IL; Lori Murphy of Pearl City and Doug (Sharon) Scudder of Forreston.  Her grandchildren include Aiden and Joseph Scudder; Ailaina and Danielle Scudder; Karyn (Chris) Hansen; Nick (T. Jaye) Best; Tishana Maltry, Wesley (Polly) Maltry, Brandee (Richie) Strohecker, and Alexandra (Fiance - Kyle Coenen) Maltry; Jesse (Julie) Ruter, Jacob (Amanda) Ruter; Jordan (Stacey) Ruter and Jillyn (Travis) Symons; Chris Goff and Andrea Goff – Rumler as well as over 21 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister, Gladys (Joseph) Wilcox of Moline, Il.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lee Charles Scudder Jr., her daughter Vicki Best; and her brother, Oliver Jr.

There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 10am at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Chapel of Peace.
