Kenneth L. Kempthorne, 70, of Freeport, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at his home after a brief but brave battle with cancer.
Born May 28, 1938 in Freeport he was the son of John L. and Fleta Cleore (St. John) Kempthorne. He married Susan Veer in 1998.
Kenneth was retired from the Railroad and owned the Shawnee Tap for several years.
Surviving are his wife, Susan of Freeport; children, Scott (Cheri) Kempthorne of Loves Park, Kena (Woody) Balles of Florida, Wendy (friend Jeff) Moon of Lena, Carey Kempthorne of Madison, WI, and Craig Kempthorne of Freeport; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; 1 brother, Wayne (Ruth) Kempthorne of Freeport; 2 sisters, Mary Ann (Ronald) Farringer of Freeport and Susan (Richard) Bigelow of Palmetto Florida; sister in-laws, Diana (Paul) Euler of Houston, Minnesota and Donna (Greg) Mudore of Freeport; stepsons, David (Julie) Smith and James Smith both of Orangeville, Steven Lamm of Freeport; 1 step daughter, Alicia Lamm of Freeport
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be Thursday 11 a.m. at Walker Mortuary with Reverend John Hollis of First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery.
Visitation is Wednesday 4 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
A memorial has been established.
