Freeport-Kevin J. Gibbs, 47, of Freeport, died Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at his home after a long battle with cancer.
Born April 29, 1957 in Rockford he was the son of John H. Jr. and Patricia R. (Welch) Gibbs. He married Teresa A. Hadley June 5, 1982.
A graduate of Highland Community College he was an optician with Shopko in Freeport for 15 years.
He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
Kevin was an avid fisherman and sport enthusiast.
Surviving is his wife, Teresa; 1 son, Adam; his father, John H. Jr. (Marilyn) Gibbs all of Freeport; 2 step brothers, Rodney (Doris) Tempel of Lanark and Randy (Sue) Tempel of Gulfport, Mississippi; 1 step sister, Linda (Ritchie) Buss of Freeport; his brother in-law, Bill Hadley of Freeport.
His mother; 1 brother, Shawn; and his grandparents preceded him in death.
Visitation will be Sunday 4 to 7 p.m., followed by a prayer service 7 p.m., at Walker Mortuary.
Following the visitation cremation rites will be accorded and interment of his cremated cremains will be in Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum.
A memorial has been established in his name.
