IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry M.
Fiene
December 5, 1942 – May 11, 2023
Dakota – Larry M. Fiene, 80 of Dakota passed away at home peacefully after an extended illness. He was born December 5, 1942 to the late Merrill and Evelyn (Keister) Fiene. He married Barbara A Neumann on February 14, 1965. She died in November, 2010.
He was quite the athlete in his younger years playing every sport offered including football, basketball and baseball. As he matured he later found himself playing first base for the church softball league for several years.
After high school graduation he went to work for Thermos for all of 6 days, but decided punching a clock and working indoors was not for him. He worked for Dickman's Feed Service for a few years before becoming a self employed mobil feed processing specialist until retirement. He was also known to be seen plowing roads & driveways during the winter as well as mowing ditches during the summers during retirement to stay busy and help the township.
He enjoyed playing Euchre, tending his garden and canning the produce from the fruits of his labor, deer hunting in his younger days, attending the sporting events of his children, and later his grandchildren, bowling both when he was younger, and again later in life until just a few years ago, and watching his westerns. He loved his Chicago Bears and Cubs despite their losing records and took razzing from his son-in-law graciously.
He was a founding member of Indian Grove Country Church in Rock City, IL where he later met his companion, Barb.
He is survived by his children, Teresa (John) Wenger of Davis; Eric (Pamela) Fiene of Rock City and Andrea "Andi" (Greg) Kittle of Potosi, WI as well as his companion, Barb Snyder of Dakota. His legacy also includes his grandchildren, Matt (Tailyr) Wenger of Ridott; Megann (Phil) Pieper of Dakota; Mackenzie (Landon) Ketchum of Norfolk, VA; Andrew (Mickey) Wenger of Dakota; Ethan (Hilary) Fiene of Lena; Cora (Jordan) Eilders of South Berwick, ME; Zachary Kittle of Beloit, WI; Bryn (fiancé Taylor Kelly) Kittle of Dubuque, IA and Dr. Haley (Sasha Simon) Kittle of Philadelphia, PA. He also leaves behind 11 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters, Dorothy Dexter, Elaine Molosz and his brother, Donnie Fiene.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, May 18 from 4-7pm at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Dakota, IL. Services will be on Friday, May 19th at 11am at Indian Grove Country Church in Rock City, IL. A memorial has been designated for FHN Hospice and Indian Grove Country Church. Condolences can be left for the family at www.walkermortuary.com .
