Larry L. Wittbecker, 74, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at FHN Memorial Hospital after a very short illness. Larry was born in Ridott, IL on January 31, 1940, the son of Willard and Margaret (Boyer) Wittbecker.

He married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Kaiser, on January 11, 2003, at Faith United Methodist Church. Larry quit school at the age of 16 to join the U. S. Navy, never regretting that decision after receiving his GED. He sailed on the USS Randolph from February 1957-1960; USS Currituck from 1960-1965; and ended his career after 9-1/2 years on the USS Canopus, honored as a plank owner. He was a Machinist Mate First Class which assisted greatly in obtaining the job of power house operator at Kelly Springfield retiring after 33 years.

After retirement, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson with the "over the hill gang" as he called them and making sure all the chrome was polished to blind the naked eye.

Larry is survived by his wife, Wanda (Kaiser) Wittbecker, daughter, Autumn (fiancé Ryan Kivell) Wittbecker, son, Mike (Jenny) Wittbecker all of Freeport, son, Pat (Leann) Shankin of Haddon Heights, New Jersey; grandchildren Vincent, Zach, Alex, and Sarah, all of Freeport, IL. and Brittany Shankin of Haddon Heights , New Jersey. He is also survived by his step-daughter, Kim (Jeffrey) Giss,; step-grandchildren, Kayla and Bradley Giss, Poplar Grove, IL; brother-in-law, Francis Malloy of Freeport, IL. He was predeceased in death by his parents and sister, Donna Malloy.
