Laura J. Staben

Laura J. (Meyers) Staben, age 55, of Freeport, IL (formerly of Dubuque, IA) passed away Monday, April 13th, 2026 at home surrounded by her loved ones. Laura was born on December 18th, 1970 to William P. and Zelda J. (Smith) Meyers. Laura attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and graduated from Wahlert High School in 1989. She graduated from Luther College in Decorah, IA in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing. She then worked as a caring nurse for Freeport Health Network (FHN) until her passing.

She married Eric Staben on November 11th, 1995 and they had one son, Daniel Staben. They later separated and for the past 9 years, she and her significant other, Paul Stine, shared their lives together.

Laura was passionate about her summer flower arrangements and gardening with Paul. She also loved canning and sharing vegetables from her garden. She was a very caring and nurturing mother, daughter, and sibling and aunt.

She is survived by her father, William, her significant other, Paul, her twin sister, Jannifer (Mike) Ayers of Cambridge, WI; her brothers, Paul (Traci) Meyers of North Liberty, IA, and Brian Meyers of Ankeny, IA. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Emily Ayers, Luke Meyers, Carter Meyers, and Ava Meyers.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Zelda Meyers.
