LaVerne R. Schweder, 90, of Freeport, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
Born March 31, 1919 in Freeport he was the son of William and Anna (Schmidt) Schweder. He married Bernice Neberman September 24, 1946 in Freeport and she died March 30, 2006.
LaVerne was a partner with the Royal Blue Store for 22 years. He then worked at Micro Switch for over 20 years retiring in 1984.
A lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church he was a past chairman of the church school board, past Elder, and past Sunday School Treasurer.
LaVerne enjoyed wood working and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving is his son, Robert (Sandy) Schweder of Freeport; 4 grandchildren, David (Sherrie) Schweder of Sioux City, Iowa, Carrie (Richard) Schrader of Rockford, Staci (Chad) McNett of DeKalb, and Andrea Schweder of Freeport; 8 great grandchildren, Dominic, Kaley, and Cameron Schweder, Brayden Schweder, Lauryn and Stephany Schrader, Ryan and Sydney McNett.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and 3 brothers.
Funeral service will be Thursday 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran church with Reverend Dr. Willis R. Schwichtenberg of the church officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Wednesday 5 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
A memorial has been established for Immanuel Lutheran Church.
The Schweder family appreciates, and will always remember, the care given LaVerne by Dr. Pedersen and the ICU nurses at FHN Memorial Hospital.
