Obituary

Lawrence L. Maize, 81 of Durand died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at his home. Born September 20, 1931 in Lancaster Township he was the son of Donald and Emma (Tamling) Maize. He was a 1950 graduate of Dakota High School. He married Betty (Wurster) Pieper in July of 1991, she preceded him in death on December 11, 2010. Lawrence farmed for many years. He enjoyed playing Euchre with his sons. He was a member of Winneshiek Evangelical Free Church, Freeport and the Joy Singers. Surviving are two daughters Connie (Perry) Hix, Cheryl McCrary; six sons Larry (Karen) Maize, Dennis (Carla) Maize, Ernie Maize, Dean (Dorris) Maize, Keith Maize, Kevin Maize; eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; three sisters Florence Fawver, Annabelle (Donald) Welling, Carol Contardi; three brothers Jerry (Marcia) Maize, Delmar (Linda) Maize, Lyle (Deb) Maize; nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Betty, son Tim, daughter Julie, sisters Deloris Martz and Pauline Sager. Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11a.m. at the Winneshiek Evangelical Free Church 3842 E. Winneshiek Rd. Freeport with Reverend John McIntosh officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded and burial of remains will be at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Freeport. A memorial has been established in his name.
