Obituary

Cedarville – Leland A. Wallis, 93 of Cedarville passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side following a short illness.  He was born February 24, 1930 in Freeport to the late Alfred and Elva (DeWall) Wallis.  He attended Freeport Schools and graduated in 1949.  Following High School he went in to the Army and served in the Korean conflict from 1951-1953.  He married Patricia Jogerst on September 25, 1955 at Zion UCC in Freeport.  She died on January 4, 2009.

Leland worked at Micro Switch/Honeywell for 37 years as a fabricator and then finished his time there in the office area.  He was a very friendly man who loved to attend any coffee gathering he could, playing horseshoes, bowling, fishing in Canada, hunting, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and his grandchildren in their sporting events.  For the past 6 years, he and his second wife, Phyllis enjoyed each other's company in all that they did together, enjoying lunch and sometimes dinner on their front porch while visiting with their neighbors as they walked by.  He was very proud of his service to our country frequenting many parades representing the local Korean War Veterans.

He is survived by his daughters, Collette (Roy) Dyson of Freeport and Leanette (Ryan) Marten of Wheeler, WI.  His legacy also includes 3 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren from his first marriage.  He also leaves behind his second wife, Phyllis Moring and his step-children Tina (Jim) Boals of Freeport; Tammy (Brian) Olson of McFarland, WI; Teresa (Craig) Aspinwall of Lena; Teri (Dan) Heitkum of Cedarville; and Tiffany Marian of Freeport as well as several step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Patricia; half- brothers Robert Borcherts and George Borcherts; half-sister, Nelda Witte and his full sister Marie Lewis.

There will be a visitation at Cedarville United Methodist church on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 from 3-6pm.  His service will be on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 10:30am also at Cedarville United Methodist church. His final resting place will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens next to his first wife, Patricia.  A memorial has been established in his name for the Cedarville UMC church.  Condolences can be left for the family at www.walkermortuary.com.
