Lenora "Darlene" Herring Polhill, 88 of Freeport died Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Stephenson Nursing Center in Freeport. Born April 3, 1925 in Stockton she was the daughter of Wilbur and Bertha (Whitson) Herring. She was a 1943 graduate of Stockton High School. On September 1, 1943 she and Robert Polhill were united in marriage in Stockton, he preceded her in death on October 4, 1979. She worked as a receptionist for Dr. Madison's office and Burgess Battery, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Freeport. Surviving are two sons Dennis (Deborah) Polhill of Golden, CO, Larry Polhill of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren Tyler Polhill of CO, Elizabeth (Bill) Leach of N.C., Kim Ketterlin of CO, Christa (Jason) Williams of CO; nine great grandchildren Megan, Kate, Gavin, Hayden, Kelsey, Keegan, Zach, Brendan and Avery; long-time friend Donald Schriner of Lanark. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, two brothers and six sisters. Funeral service will be 10:30 am Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Reverend Julie Bunt officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the time of service Saturday at the Church. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her name for Trinity United Methodist Church.
