Leo J. Heinen, age 91 of Dakota, IL, passed away at home on Thursday, February 1, 2018. He was born August 7, 1926 in Durand, IL; the son of the late Leonard and Ethel (Schmitz) Heinen. He graduated from Dakota High School with the class of 1944.

Leo was an entrepreneur and had worked at Burgess Battery as a designer and as Head of Sales. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Durand. Later he found a connection to the Rock City United Methodist Church where he often volunteered. Leo enjoyed swimming, gardening and collecting Oriental items. He also loved his fish.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Alice (Robert) Otterstein of Rock City; nieces, Michelle (William) Lindsay and Monica (Reynaldo) Cruz; nephews, Jeffrey (Jorie) Otterstein and James (Robin) Otterstein; great nieces, Courtney Lindsay, Christina Lindsay, Carissa Cruz, Taylor Moses, and Ellie Otterstein; and great nephews, Cameron Lindsay, Chandler Lindsay, and Christian Cruz. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Reva Mary.
