Freeport-Leona P. Smith, 91, of Freeport, formerly of Franklin Grove, died Friday, December 16, 2005, at her home in Freeport.
Born April 5, 1914 in Franklin Grove she was the daughter of Clyde E. and Addie M. (McClain) Phillips.
Her education included Franklin Grove Schools, Illinois State University, Northern Illinois University, and summer schooling in Colorado.
She was an Elementary School teacher for 37 years teaching in Franklin Grove and Pleasant Hill.
Her memberships included Franklin Grove United Methodist Church, Illinois State Teacher's Association, Franklin Grove Women's Club, Salvation Army and United Methodist Women.
Surviving are her sons, H. Phillip (Carol) Smith of Freeport and Jerry L. (Karen) Smith of Fountain Hills, AZ.; daughter, Judy (Victor) White of Branson, MO; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother; 1 sister.
Funeral service will be Tuesday 11 a.m. at Franklin Grove United Methodist Church with Reverend Karl Sokol officiating. Burial will be in the Franklin Grove Cemetery. Following the committal service at the cemetery there will be a lunch served at the Franklin Grove United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be Tuesday 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
