Leonard Almon Dexter, 82, of Freeport died March 22, 2012 at home. Born on Sept. 13, 1929 in Milwaukee, WI. He was the son of Leonard Almon and Esther Marion (Ballard) Dexter Sr . On Aug. 8, 1960, Leonard married Shirley Anne Simmons Helbling in Crown Point, IN. Leonard was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving from Feb. 8, 1948 to Oct. 12, 1953 as an Electrician's Mate 2/C. He served on the USS Grand Canyon AD-28. He worked at Burgess Battery for over 20 years. Leonard retired from Sunstrand in 1991.

Dexter, of Omaha, NE., Michael A.(Samantha Rogers) Helbling, of Freeport, Brent A. Seeman of NY, Karly R. Dexter (Chris) Clements, of Norfolk, VA., Polly B. Helbling (Wesley) Maultry, of Freeport, Craig J. Seeman of Pensacola, FL., Kristen D. Helbling of Freeport , Phillip L. Dexter of Pensacola, FL. , and 5 great-grandchildren, David A. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard, sister Grace, grandson James and granddaughter Aubrey.
