Freeport: Lester A. Loper, 82, died Friday March 4, 2005 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Born May 5, 1922 in Central Lake Michigan. He was the son of Jasper and LuVerna (Stephenson) Loper. On February 19, 1945 he married Mary Boback in Hazel Park Michigan. Lester was a career truck driver for 41 years driving for various companies until his retirement in 1981; he attended Faith United Methodist Church, was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 325, the Freeport Moose and was a veteran of WWII. Lester loved his coffee and was well known through out the town at all the local coffee shops. He loved being with people sharing a good cup of coffee and his wonderful sense of humor. He was very close to all his grandchildren. He loved spending time talking, telling stories and being with them. He was well known for his large and varied hat collection. He would wear these different hats all the time and his grandchidren would always be looking for that new special hat that grandpa could wear next. Surviving is his wife Mary, two sons, Roger (Marilyn) Loper of Freeport and Terry (Laura) Loper of Cedar Falls, Iowa, two daughters, Bonnie(Gerry) Lange of Freeport, Mary Ann (Phillip) Bauscher of Freeport, seven Grandchildren, Jeffrey (Fiancé, Holly Weese) of Nashville, TN, Marissa (Robert) Ford of Freeport, Lisa (Donnie) Schofield of Freeport, Lora Donmeyer of Rockford, Ashley and Brady Loper of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Tawny Lynn Loper of Freeport, two great grandchildren Brett and Tyler Schofield of Freeport, One brother, Mathew Loper of Elk Rapids, Michigan, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, eight brothers and one daughter. Funeral service will be held Tuesday 11:00 am at Faith United Methodist Church with the Reverend Bruce Janes officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.
