Lilian E. Stone, 91, of Freeport, died Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Stephenson Nursing Center.
Born March 1, 1922 in London, England she was the daughter of Charles E. and Ada (Collins) Stevens. She married Sidney F.W. Stone December 26, 1941 in England. He died May 1, 2001.
During World War II Lilian worked at the General Aircraft Factory in England. When she came to the United States in 1957 she had a vital working career in addition to raising her family.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and their Concordia Society. She was a volunteer for many organizations. Lilian was a longtime member of TOPS.
Her greatest joys came from time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and gardening.
Surviving are her children, Sylvia (Reverend Dr. Stanley) Bomgarden of Freeport, Valerie Gunter of Texas, Victor Stone of Texas; two brothers, Bill (Doreen) Stevens and Walter Stevens both of London, England; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Robert; one grandson, Jonathan; two sisters; and three brothers.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday April 22, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Reverend Dr. Willis Schwichtenberg officiating.
Visitation will be Monday 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
Following the service cremation rites will be accorded.
A memorial has been established for Immanuel Lutheran Church.
