On Saturday, October 31, 2020, Lloyd Scott Duffield, age 84, loving husband and father, passed away at Freeport Memorial Hospital due to complications from the Covid-19 virus.
Lloyd was born on December 23, 1935, in Richwood, WV, to Lloyd Donald and Goldie May (Westfall) Duffield. He joined the Navy in 1955 and was assigned to the USS Ticonderoga where he sailed the Pacific Ocean. On August 21, 1956, he married Marilyn Miller Johnson in Tazewell, VA. They moved to Freeport, IL, in 1959, where he joined MICROSWITCH-Honeywell as a draftsman. He retired from there in 1993. Lloyd and Marilyn raised three children, daughter Teresa and sons Thomas and Timothy. On December 10, 1976, he married Marcia Kay Cheeseman in Freeport, IL, and his family expanded to include three more daughters, Kim, Kerri, and Sheila.
Lloyd was always known as Duffy to his friends. He loved to go RVing and making new friends. He was an excellent cook and was always quick to show up with his latest baked good or other new recipe he'd tried. He was a talented artist with his wooden figures and bird feeders. He was a regular patron to many local establishments where he loved his Manhattans with excessive sweet vermouth and cherry juice. He was known for his generous spirit, his contrary opinions, and his ready, mischievous grin. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his father Lloyd D, his mother Goldie May, his stepmother Elsie, his stepfather Joseph G Stump, his son Tom, grandsons Kyle Houck and Leo Gerke, and grandson-in-law, Chad Martin. He is survived by his wife Marcia, his brother Rick (Debby) Stump of Weirton WV, son Tim (Holly) Duffield and daughter-in-law Lynnette (Tom) Duffield all of Wyoming IL, daughters Teresa (Charles) Wellman, Kim Houck, Kerri (Scott) Gerke, and Sheila (Brian) Sherrer, all of Freeport IL. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan Duffield of Decatur IL, Megan (Justin) Longo of Littleton CO, Grace (Andrew) Rogers of Cedar Falls IA, Samuel Wellman of Portland OR, Steven Duffield of Palatine IL, Nathan (Jaime) Duffield of Ewa Beach, HI, Amanda Eiseman and April (Chad, deceased) Martin of Freeport IL, Brian Sherrer of Platteville, WI, Justin (Brandi) Sherrer, Kyla Sherrer, Nicole Sherrer, September (Perry) Chezem, all of Freeport, IL, Aspen (Terry) Tipp of Rochelle, IL and 21 great-grandchildren. Lloyd is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Due to the current circumstances with the Covid pandemic, there will be a small visitation limited to family at Walker Mortuary on Monday, November 2. A celebration of Duffy's life will be scheduled at a later date when is safe for family and friends to gather again. A memorial has been established in his name.
