Lois A. Stebbins, 90, of Freeport passed to her eternal home Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Presence St. Joseph Nursing Center Freeport. Born October 2, 1922 in Baileyville she was the daughter of Christian and Augusta (Kilker) Hagemann. Lois grew up on the family farm, attended Green Prairie School, and was a 1940 graduate of Forreston High School. On March 26, 1965 she and Spencer Stebbins were united in marriage at the North Grove Evangelical Church in Forreston. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1997. Lois worked in the shipping departments at W.T. Rawleigh for 22 years and Micro Switch for 14 years. She dearly loved her North Grove Church family where she was a lifetime member and the oldest member in recent years. After retiring in 1987, Lois enjoyed the 60's Alive Club and volunteer work at RSVP. She enjoyed her roses, her two cats, doing puzzles, playing 42 and taking long walks. She loved the many family times with her brothers and their families. She spoke often of her eighteen nieces and nephews who knew her as "Lowie".
Surviving are her step daughter Ada Stebbins of Peoria; three brothers, Leonard Hagemann of German Valley, Melvin Hagemann of Baileyville, and Ray (Lois) Hagemann of Freeport; sister-in-law Esther Hagemann of Forreston. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, LeRoy, Harvey and sisters-in-law Alice Hagemann and June Hagemann. The diphtheria outbreak of 1921 also took her older siblings Ruth, Lucille and Verlon. Visitation will be Sunday from 4pm to 6pm at Walker Mortuary, Freeport. Funeral services will be held 10 am Monday, March 18, 2013 at North Grove Evangelical Church with Reverend Tim Hotchkiss officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her name for the Church.
