Loran F. Meyers, 85 of rural Dakota went to be with the Lord on Sunday November 2, 2008. He was born April 5, 1923 to Frederick and Mathilda (Westphal) Meyers in rural Stephenson County. Loran was a graduate of Pecatonica High School, class of 1941. On November 11, 1949 he married Ethel V. Meyers in Mt. Lake MN. Loran was a lifelong farmer in Stephenson County, raising purebred Chester White hogs and Cheviot sheep. He also served for 6 years as a custodian at Dakota Community Schools. He enjoyed restoring Minneapolis Moline tractors and displaying them at area events. He was also a long-suffering Cubs fan, attending his last game just this past September. Loran was devoted to his family and an active member of the German Valley Christian Reformed Church for 59 years.
He is survived by his wife Ethel of Dakota; son Steven (Janet) of Sioux Center, IA; son Larry (Susan) of Sheldon, IA; daughter
Jacquelyn (Stephen Faber) Meyers of Stevens Point, WI; son Leslie (Kelly) of Gilman, IA; son Rollyn (Teresa) of Janesville, WI; daughter Brenda (Dwayne) Smith of Johnston, IA; 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and LaVerne, and one great grandchild, Taylor.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota. Funeral service will be Wednesday November 5, at 10:30 am at the German Valley Christian Reformed Church 4861 S. Holland Church Rd. with the Reverend Jake Ritzema officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in his name for Tri-County Christian School and Freeport Salvation Army.
