Lowell Goethe died peacefully Nov 18, 2017 at Liberty Village with his family by his side. He was the son of Elmer and Norma (Meier) Goethe born August 31, 1922. He married Joyce Heilman on June 27, 1944 in Hugo, OK. They honeymooned in Paris, Texas and he always had fun saying that they honeymooned in "Paris". He enlisted in the US Army and served from September 18, 1943 to Aug 17 th , 1945. He was a P.F.C. in the 1849 th /8 th service Command Unit where he guarded German POW's. He was stationed at Camp Swift Texas as a Military Policeman. He received a Good Conduct Medal and he was a Carbine Marksman Shotgun Expert which he also received a medal for.
He enjoyed farming and woodworking like he did with his Grandpa – he could build anything. He also worked at Barber-Colman in Rockford from 1959 to 1988. He loved to play games with his family, making gadgets to make his life easier, spending time with his family and sharing stories of his life. He was always amazed at all of the things that occurred in his lifetime from airplane travel to cell phone technology. He raised 5 children that he was very proud of.
He is survived by 2 sons John (Trudy L.) Goethe of Harrisonville, MO; Dennis (Lana) Goethe of Durand; 2 daughters Karen (E. John) Johnson of Pearl City, Susan (Dan) Manson of Kalispell, MT, 16 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several great, great grandchildren. One daughter-in-law Trudy A. Goethe of Rockford, sister-in-law Betty Heilman of Freeport and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son Stephen and one sister Alvera Goethe.
Services will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 1:30 pm at Oakland Mausoleum in Freeport. A memorial fund has been established in his name.Funeral Service
