Lucille Shockey of rural Ridott, died Saturday, October 27, 2007, at her home.
Born November 23, 1923 in Freeport she was the daughter of Fred C. and Sadie (Smith) Niemeier. She married Kenneth G. Shockey June 26, 1941 at the First Lutheran Church, Freeport and he preceded her in death on November 8, 2000.
She was a 1941 graduate of Freeport High School.
A homemaker, Lucille worked at Ipsen Ceramics in Pecatonica and also was employed in the office of Dakota Community School District for many years, retiring in 1974. She then worked for HP Books in Tucson, Arizona.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Freeport, a 57 year member of Rock Run Home Extension, and she and her husband were past 4H leaders
Lucille enjoyed family genealogy, traveling, and needlework.
Surviving are her four children, Fred (Helen) Shockey of Ridott, Gary (Robin) Shockey of Ridott, Vicki (Doug) Grant of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Kim (Amy) Shockey of Rock City; 12 grandchildren, Alan Shockey of Rochelle, Jeff (Bobbi) Shockey of Lakewood, Colorado, Jodi (Keith) Segura of Littleton, Colorado, Adam Shockey of Denver, Colorado, Alex Shockey of Iowa City, Iowa, Greg VanDeMark of River Falls, Wisconsin, Brian (Tina) VanDeMark of Evansville, Wisconsin, Marcia (Dean) Wardlow of Forreston, Dan Grant of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Stephen Grant of Bloomington, Minnesota, Evan Shockey of Rock City, and Olivia Shockey of Rock City; eight great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Amber, and Kenneth Shockey, Brock VanDeMark, Kyle, Lindsey and Nathan Wardlow, and Garrett Segura; one great-great-grandchild, Alexzander Shockey; one aunt, Lillian Mokros of Lena; two nieces; one nephew, and special friend, Fairie Rockey -Long of Phoenix, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral service will be Tuesday 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church with the Reverend Neville Kretzmann officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Monday 5 to 8 p.m. at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota.
A memorial has been established in her name.
