Margaret M. Hawes, 90, of Freeport died Monday July 30, 2007 at Provena St. Joseph Home. Born December 17, 1916 in Freeport she was the daughter of August E. and Marie (Ottenhausen) Schmidt. She and Glen Hawes were married in Iowa in 1935, he died in 1978. She worked as a cook at Freeport High School for 12yrs and for Micro Switch for 25yrs. Her memberships included Park Hills Evangelical Church and Century club at Micro Switch. She enjoyed being a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 15yrs.
She is survived by one son Larry (Bette) Hawes of Amboy; three grandsons Jon (Theresa) Hawes of Glenview, Paul (Lisa) Hawes of Minnetrista, MN, Aaron (Devi) Hawes of Freeport; 6 great grandchildren Olivia, Thomas, Aidan, Daniel, Benjamin and Abigail; numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 pm at Walker Mortuary and Cremation Services.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Walker Mortuary.
Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum.
A memorial fund has been established.
