ROBINSON MARGERY A (Haas) beloved daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth Haas and dear sister of the late Roscoe Haas (Mary, deceased), cherished aunt of James Haas (Mary Lou), Mary Ann Smith (Karl, deceased), Barbara Scripps (Thomas), and William Haas (Shannon), great aunt of Michael Smith (Joanna), Alison Hollingsworth (Matthew), Carolyn Haas, Emily Witt (Kenneth), Kathryn Gamroth (Douglas), Jason Haas-Hecker, Sarah Haas (Eric Foley), Will Scripps, Benjamin Haas, and Mary Ellen Scripps. Marge also had seven great-grand nieces and nephews. She was married for a time to W. Robert Robinson from Oklahoma.
With an undergraduate degree in Marketing from the University of Wisconsin and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, Marge spent her career in marketing, working for a number of Chicago-area firms. She was a pioneer for women in business at a time when women in a profession were rare. She retired from Abbott Labs in 1985 and returned to live in Freeport.
Since 1947 her passion was traveling. She visited every continent, including Antarctica. There are pictures of Marge on a camel by the Pyramids, on an ice floe in Antarctica, on a riverboat on the Nile, riding in a jeep in Alaska, exploring Al Khazneh, "Treasurer of the Rock," in the Edom Mountains of southwest Jordan. Her favorite city was London; her last visit there was in 2012, where she was accompanied by members of her family. When Marge got a new passport, it wasn't because the old one was expired; it was because there was no room left in it for another stamp.
Marge was also an avid golfer. She won several trophies from various corporate tournaments during her long career at Abbott, and continued playing golf during retirement until late in her life at her beloved Park Hills golf course.
Marge followed in her father Art's footsteps in her interest in the Freeport Park District and in Krape Park in particular. Art Haas was a Park Commissioner in 1924-1925 and 1942-1967. Marge made numerous anonymous donations over the years to the Park District, including the commissioning of bronze statues of two children playing in the Commissioner's Garden. She also supported the Freeport Concert Band, sponsoring concerts and serving birthday cake and ice cream to celebrate her July birthday.
The family suggests memorials in her name to the Freeport Park District Park or the Freeport Concert Band (4323 Business Route 20 West, Freeport, IL 61032).
