Marie Kahn, age 86 passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Swedish American Heart Hospital Center in Rockford, IL. She was born December 13, 1930 in Palmyra, MI; the daughter of the late Gottlob and Martha (Wellnitz) Roekle. She married Lauren Kahn on May 18, 1957.
Marie received her Bachelor's Degree in Education at Dr. Martin Luther College and taught at St. Matthew's in Winona, MI. After she married Lauren, she became a homemaker and raised her family. Together, Marie and Lauren were members of Franklin Grove Historical Society and the Chaplin Creek Muzzle Loaders. She was also a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Freeport where she volunteered and taught Sunday School. She enjoyed reading, bird watching and fishing.
Marie is survived by her husband, Lauren Kahn of Quincy, IL; daughters, Renee (David) Atlee of Stillman Valley, IL, Melanie Majors of KY; and Melody (James) Wartian of Cedar Rapids, IA; sons, Philip Kahn and Mark Kahn both of IL; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth Smith; and brother, Paul Roekle.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 27th at 11:00 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Freeport, IL with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. A private burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery in Quincy, IL at a later date. A memorial fund has been established for Our Savior Lutheran Church.
