Freeport – Marilyn J. Herbig, 88 of Freeport died at the Lena Living Center on Tuesday, March 15, 2022.  She was born on June 22, 1933 to the late Simon and Myrtle (Curboy) Janssen.  She married LaVerne Herbig on February 23, 1952 and together they raised a family. LaVerne died in 1977.  She worked for the Northwestern Telephone Company, Burgess Battery, and at FHN Memorial Hospital until retirement.

She loved being with family for all kinds of occasions, especially birthday parties.  She loved country music and had the chance to see many artists in concert, including her favorite, Alan Jackson and Reba McIntyre.  She was very social and everyone who met her instantly liked her.  WWE was also one of her favorite past times.

She is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Timothy) Carter and Peggy Spradlin both of Freeport.  Sons, Roger (Mechelle) Herbig of New Glarus, WI; LeRoy Herbig of Freeport; and Rick Herbig of Freeport. Sisters Linda (Bob) Dick of Stockton and Shirley Rodgers of Iowa.  Her legacy also includes 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Kevin Herbig, three sisters, Lois Cromwell; Donna Janssen and Eileen Krull as well as one brother John Janssen.
