Marion Virginia Myers, 100, of Freeport, died Monday, September 2, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on February 18, 1919 in Freeport to Henry and Blanche (Bloyer) Diddens. Marion married Arthur L. Myers on July 6, 1940 in Dubuque, IA. They were married for 60 years.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a quiet, kind and humble woman of faith. She led an exemplary life and was a source of deep love and support for her children.
Prior to marriage, she worked at Burgess Battery and as a bookkeeper at East Side Creamery. After marrying Art, she stayed at home to raise her family.
Marion was a talented seamstress, great cook and lover of all God's creatures.
She enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. She loved her church, Trinity United Methodist, of which she was a lifelong member.
She was overjoyed with her 100 th birthday celebration where she was able to reconnect with many friends and family members. Marion lived out her final months at Oakley Courts Assisted Living Center where she made many friends.
Marion is survived by sons, Gary of Lena and Roger of Freeport; Daughter, Lori (Will Hoeper) of Freeport; Sister, Helen Winters and Sister-in-law, Polly Diddens; Grandchildren, Bret (Michelle) Myers, Natalie Myers, Staci (Jeff) Boudreau, Erin (Jesse) Bowman, Dane (Kate) Myers, Brianne Tucker and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000, sons Artie and Terry, parents, four brothers and two sisters.
The funeral service will held on Saturday, September 7 th at 11:30 a.m. at Walker Mortuary in Freeport with the Rev. Becky Hebert officiating. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Marion's name.
