Marjorie Meighan Gustafson, 88, of Freeport, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Stephenson Nursing Center.
Born December 21, 1922 in rural Lena she was the daughter of Emil and Florence (McLain) Mellentine. Marjorie married James Meighan on December 30, 1939. Her life with James was farming where she discovered her love for flowers and plants. James died February 20, 1973.
On July 29, 1977 she married Edward Gustafson. They enjoyed traveling and visiting their families. Ed died July 25, 2008.
Marjorie attended Lena schools. She worked at Burgess Battery and Western Newell. She was a member of Church of Latter Day Saints. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, and reading. She was devoted to her sons.
She is survived by 2 sons, Howard (Barb) Meighan of Tempe, Arizona and Dean Meighan of Ocala, Florida; 1 daughter in-law, Linda Meighan of Freeport; 5 grandchildren, Beth Meighan, Richard Meighan, Jr., Stacy King, Stuart Meighan, Trisha Patterson; 5 great grandchildren, Sheila Reese, Tomara King, Jessie and Michael Meighan, Jordan Montgomery; 2 step children, Vickie Norland, Ron Gustafson; 1 step daughter-in-law, Pam Gustafson; 1 step son-in-law, Carlton Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; James Meighan and Ed Gustafson; 1 son, Richard Meighan; 4 brothers, Merle, Robert, Curtis, and Carroll Mellentine; 1 sister, Evelyn Helsinger; 1 great grand daughter, Samantha Meighan; 1 step son, Harlan Gustafson; 1 stepdaughter, Yvonne Johnson.
Funeral service will be Thursday 11 a.m. at Church of Later Day Saints, Freeport. Visitation will be Thursday 10 a.m. until time of service at the Church.
Private burial services will be at Lena Burial Park.
Memorials have been established for FHN Memorial Hospice, Stephenson Nursing Center, and Church of Latter Day Saints.
