Marjorie "Margie" A. Swain, 81, of Freeport passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Presence St Joseph Home in Freeport. Born May 23, 1933 in rural Stockton, she was the daughter of Elmer and Lida (Gates) Rogers. She graduated from Stockton High School in 1951. On June 25, 1951 Marjorie and James Swain were united in marriage at the little brown Church in Nashua, IA. They were members of Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Lena. She loved to travel, especially trips with the Vybornys from South Dakota. She visited all 50 states, Switzerland, The British Isles and enjoyed cruises. Marjorie was active in the Freeport T.O.P.S. group and served as president for several years. She was an avid China painter, and with a group of friends, met and painted almost every week. She attended many china painting shows, displays and sales. She leaves a huge collection of hand painted plates, plaques, pitchers, cups, wall hangings, etc all beautiful work. Surviving are her husband James of Freeport; daughter Dawn Burkhalter of Freeport; three grandchildren Josh, Scott and Nick Burkhalter; two sisters Mary Lou Koester and Helen (Bob) Bastian; brother Greg (Rosie) Rogers; brother-in-law Joe McCarron; sisters-in-law Karen Rogers and Mary Rogers; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were a son, David Swain; sister Polly McCarron; three brothers Hugh, Doug and Dayne Rogers; sister-in-law Arlene Rogers. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Lena with Reverend Miranda Klosterboer officiating. Burial will be at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. A memorial has been established in her name.
