Marjorie M. "Marj" Boyer, 99, of Freeport, died Saturday, January 19, 2008 at Freeport Rehabilitation and Health Care Center two days after her 99th birthday. She was born January 17, 1909, the third child of George and Daisy (Aurand) Koch.
On August 4, 1934 she married Herbert J. "Herb" Boyer at First Lutheran Church in Freeport. He preceded her in death on September 2, 1982.
Marj was a lifetime, faithful member of First Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and was a member of Mary Circle. She spent many happy hours in the church kitchen with her friends cooking and serving meals.
For many years she was a bookkeeper for her husbands DX Service Station. She also helped bag Mrs. Mike's potatoes chips for her brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Marj worked at Freeport Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aid and later as a volunteer pink lady.
In earlier years she enjoyed playing euchre and 500 with family and friends. She taught her grandchildren to play euchre. Walking was an exercise she enjoyed as well as the yearly vacation at Cornell Lake near Bloomer, Wisconsin. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of joy for her.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet Martin of Freeport; 3 grandchildren, Mike (Linda) Martin of Wayne, Il, Doug (Martha) Martin and Kathy (Jim) Bangasser both of Freeport; 5 great-grandchildren, Mitch, Matt, Tom, Lydia and Marissa Martin; 1 sister-in-law, Fern Koch; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; son-in-law, Keith Martin; 3 sisters; 2 brothers; and 1 great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be Tuesday 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Neville Kretzmann officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday 10 a.m. until time of the service at First Lutheran Church.
Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her name.
