Freeport – Mark A. Johnstone, 70 of Freeport passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on March 17, 2026. He was born July 21, 1955 in Aurora, Illinois to Gordon and Avalyn (Stevens) Johnstone. He married Kim Viars on October 27, 2000.

Mark was an independent plumber in business for 45 years. He enjoyed fishing and golfing. He was a big man with an even bigger heart. He loved his family and friends very much.

He is survived by his wife, Kim of Freeport. His son, Andy Johnstone of Freeport; his daughter, Marla Erima of Batavia, Illinois; sisters, Linda Johnstone of Carol Stream, Illinois and Stacey Johnstone of Bradley, Illinois and his brother, Jimmy (Denise) Johnstone of Portland, Oregon as well as many nieces and nephews. His legacy lives on in his 5 grandchildren, Audrey, Evelyn, Matthew, Jude and Elizabeth.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Mike Johnstone and his son, Cody Smithey.

Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be a celebration of life at a later date.
