Obituary

Marlene E. Maxey, 86 of Freeport died Wednesday, October 4 th , 2017 at Stephenson Nursing Center, Freeport, IL.  Born August 12, 1931 in Freeport.  She was the daughter of Viola (Henning) and Lynn Elliott.  She married Donald Maxey on May 2, 1953 at White Pines State Park.

She was a supervisor at Economy Fire and Casualty where she worked for 22 years and retired in 1994. She was a member of Freeport First United Methodist Church and she taught Sunday School teacher for 25 years at previous churches. Her memberships also include Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary where she served as President. She enjoyed making backpacks for children in Mexico.

Surviving are her son Gary (Sandy) Maxey of Appleton, WI and her daughter Sheri Maxey of Freeport. She has 7 grandchildren; Meghan (Jake) Hernandez, Karin Maxey, Sarah (fiancé, Nicholas Interial) Comer; Amanda (fiance, Larry Wong) Sanders; Ben (fiancé, Mary O'Connell) Maxey; Dan Maxey; and Robyn Maxey and 4 great grandchildren, Alex Davis, Logan Hernandez, Carter Hernandez, and Emilynn Maxey.  Her parents, husband, and sister Marjorie (Roderick) Drexler preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 7 th at 10:30 am at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Calvin B. Haines Jr. officiating. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 9:00 am. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon. A memorial has been established in her name for Freeport First United Methodist, Friends Forever Humane Society and the American Heart Association.
