Obituary

Martha L. Jacobs, age 85 of Freeport, IL, longed for heaven and went home to be with the Lord on the evening of April 28, 2023 at Walnut Acres Nursing Home. She was born March 12, 1938 in Ridott, IL; the daughter of the late William and Marie (Meier) Jacobs. She attended Shannon High School and graduated from Lena High School in 1956. She went on to receive her nursing degree from the Deaconess Hospital in Freeport.

After completing her degree, Martha interned in Chicago and came back to work for FHN Memorial Hospital for 42 years. She spent most of her years working in Pediatrics, she had a true gift for caring for children. She cared for children with love and compassion as if they were her own. Martha had a special place in her heart for the handicapped and volunteered at Malcom-Eaton Enterprises.

She was a member of Zion Church of Freeport where she was active in Ladies' Aid. She loved reading her Bible and talking about God's faithfulness in her life. She was a true prayer warrior and held tightly to God's perfect peace and love. She loved reading her Bible, crocheting and knitting. She dearly loved her nieces and nephews who brought great joy to her life. Her faith and family meant everything to her. She embodied the meaning of selfless love, as she gave her all to others and expected nothing in return.

Martha is survived by her siblings, August Jacobs of Pearl City, IL, Wilmer (Dianne) Jacobs of Shannon, IL, Roger (Phyllis) Jacobs of Pearl City, IL, Earl (Christy) Jacobs of Florida, Kenneth (Barbara) Jacobs, of Freeport, and Shirley (Scott) Deininger of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Carol Jacobs of Freeport; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, and great great nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arthur; nephews, Dean Jacobs and Tracy Jacobs; niece, Kimberly Jacobs; great nephew, Zandyr Jacobs; and sister-in-law, Nancy Jacobs.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Church of Freeport with a visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
