Marvin H. Gentz

Marvin "Marv" Gentz was born in Lena Illinois on July 4th, 1939 and passed on August 6th, 2026 at his home surrounded by loved ones after a brief illness. He was born to George and Julia Eby Gentz. Marv married Sharon Washburn on September 8th, 1967. Marv completed up to the 8th grade in school when he started his work career. He worked as a farm hand in the Lena area, he prepped and washed cars in Cedarville for Barkau's, worked for Bing Miller at his gas station on the corner of Galena and Exchange St and finally started at Micro Switch and worked there for 30 years before retiring in 1995. Marv and Sharon enjoyed bowling and golfing together, classic cars, going to car shows and restoring their 1957 Chevy Belair and 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible. Marv was a very generous, kind, hardworking man and he loved his family. Marv had 5 children collectively, 14 grandchildren, 29 Great Grand Children and 5 Great Great Grand Children

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Gentz, children, Kathleen (John) Krieger, Vicki Gentz, Tracy (John) Kreeger, David (Barbara) Washburn and Donna Washburn. His Grandchildren Chris Gentz, Brianna Washburn, Nicholas (Michelle) Kreeger, Michael (Brenna) Washburn, John Philip (Shawna) Kreeger, Jack Washburn, Lance Washburn, Amy (Brandon) Wise, Adam (Angie) Krieger, Aaron (Katie) Gentz, Tim (Nicole) Washburn, Kourtney Kraft, Emily (Kyle) Lehnhard. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Julia Gentz, his twin sister, Mary Martin, Brothers Wilber Gentz, Joseph "Joe" Gentz, Ellsworth "Buck" Gentz, Francis "Bud" Gentz and sister Mildred Pohill, 2 Brother in Laws Francis Martin and Clarence Pohill, and 2 Sister in Laws Jeanie Gentz and Josephine "Doty" Gentz. 1 Grandson and 1 Great Great Grandson.

There will be a visitation held on Wednesday, August 12 from 4-7pm at Walker Mortuary. A service will take place the following day on Thursday, August 13th at Walker Mortuary beginning at 10am. His final resting place will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been designated in his name for Joseph’s Pantry of Faith Temple Church of Freeport.
